WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Jonathan Dayton Regional High School is a special
place filled with unique and talented individuals. The
students are energetic, bright, and willing to work
hard. Our challenge for the 1990-91 school year has
been to renew "school spirit" and "Bulldog Pride."
This spirit has grown from the first Blue and Orange
Day in September to Spirit Week, Spring Fling and
finally, Graduation. The Class of 1991 and all Dayton
students can indeed be proud of the spirit they have
created for now and for years to come.

"THE ENFORCER"

On the surface, Mr. Manuel F. Pereira, Assistant
Principal at Jonathan Dayton Regional High School,
is a mighty authoritarian and disciplinarian, who
appreciates and respects the values of adminis-
tration and education. In concert with the efforts of
Mrs. Wickline, he endlessly strives to make Jon-
athan Dayton an institution of par excellence, the
standard to which other schools must be com-
pared. Underneath this administrative solemnity,
however, is a sensitive man who cares for and
makes every possible endeavor to understand the
student as an individual. He confronts problems
with strength and candor, while simultaneously en-
suring that these problems are corrected and jus-
tice served.

BEHIND THE SCENES

"Dead Poet's Society"

The English Department is based on
reading and writing. All other subjects
depend on the English department for
that reason. The English department has
established the writing center to help in
writing essays, reports, compositions,
etc. Besides the regular Freshman,
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior English
classes, there are also other English
classes that may be taken as electives
such as Communication Arts, T.V. pro-
ductions, and journalism.

"Analyze this?" "How can I fail Eng-
lish when I live in America?" "We have
to read all this in one week?" "Are there
Cliff Notes for this?" "But I don't see any
Christ symbolism!" "You want me to
relate to Edgar Allen Poe?" "Where's
your homework?" "This book of 400
pages is due one week from today?"
"Where's your outline?" "Why didn't
you skip lines?"

"EUROPEAN VACATION"

Although not a require-
ment for graduation, foreign
languages are studied by
many Dayton students. Vo-
cabulary, grammar, writing
skills, literature, culture, and
fluency are all enforced by
compositions, oral presenta-
tions, and audio visual aids.
Foreign language week has
many students creating post-
ers showing the advantages
of learning a foreign lan-
guage. Whether students
study Spanish, Italian, Latin,
or French, they are in for a
challenging yet rewarding ex-
perience.

dedicated to educating
Daytonites about the won-

"WEIRD SCIENCE''

"Did we have Physics

for the Biology test?" "What
were your results for the
Chemistry lab?" As a result of
the variety of science courses
offered at Dayton, the two
years of required science
doesn't seem so bad. Stu-
dents can select from Botany,
Oceanography, Physical An-
thropology, and many other
courses. Also helpful in get-
ting us through the day are
the unique personalities of
the teachers. Miss

Also, a trip to Ellis Island

PHYSICAL FITNESS FACULTY FIGHTS FLAB!

Dayton's gym teachers crusade
against cellulite, making the battle
against the bulge an enjoyable one. Stu-
dents may choose from a wide array of
aerobic and muscle-conditioning activ-
ities. For example, weight lifting is a
popular endeavor for many Dayton stu-
dents. Machines are constantly being
added to the weight room. Is this to help
the student body (students' bodies?!) or
to keep Mr. Kozub's wits sharpened?
(For he must use his ingenuity to figure
out how they are used.) Gym teachers
also work on pupils' motor coordination
while coaching them in sports like base-
ball, volleyball, football, tennis, and soc-
cer. And who could forget those be-
loved physical fitness tests, designed to
keep America flab-free? Students
pushed themselves to the limit and
many were rewarded with T-shirts for
National or Presidential awards. Day-
ton's Physical Education faculty makes
gym class an enjoyable and beneficial
part of everyone's day.

Electives at Dayton are areas in
which students can excel non-
academically. Miss Kay and Mr. Hasse
teach Dayton's musically inclined stu-
dents in Miss Kay's three choirs, and in
Mr. Hasse's band. They also teach stu-
dents to love "The Sound of Music"
during music theory, appreciation, and
instrumental workshop courses. Mr.
Brodman teaches the fine arts classes
of drawing, painting, jewelry, and
crafts, while Mr. Lowe teaches graphic
arts. Finally, those Daytonites who
wish to learn handy skills attend Mr.
Metz's industrial arts classes. In his
"Little Shop of Horrors," they plan
personal projects and carry them out
using the various shop machines (and
safety rules, of course!). In these class-
es, students pursue their interests and
develop talents that lie outside of read-
ing, 'riting, and 'rithmetic.

"Big Business" at Dayton

Students prepare for their futures . .

Business Education and Home Economics are two
studies students pursue to ready themselves for their
futures. In Mr. Bukavich's or Mr. Shustack's accounting
classes, Mr. Shustack's keyboarding class, and Mr. Tag-
lienti's business law and business management classes,
students begin to plan how to get ahead in the business
world. Mrs. Frese teaches independent living in her
three foods classes and Contemporary Living class. Stu-
dents learned a little bit about what taking care of a real
baby would be like as they took care of flour/pumpkin
babies and attempted to protect them from mischievous
students. Also, the Contemporary Living class took care
of real, live children in Dayton itself for a day.

TEACHERS''

Jonathan Dayton serves the
needs of all our students. The
Special Education Depart-
ment, headed by Dr. Frank
Kenny, is a program in which
learning disabled students
can be taught individually
and with the method that
works best for each of them.
The teachers in this depart-
ment are caring and intelli-
gent people who are a great
asset to this program. The
students involved are lucky
to have them.

rr

The Guidance, Health, and At-
tendance Offices, along with the
IMC, have been there for the stu-
dents throughout the years. Each
of these offices has helped every
student in many ways. The guid-
ance counselors told disappointed
Dayton students that, no, they
could not have a study every pe-
riod or a three hour lunch break.
Seniors could not have made it
through the grueling college ap-
plication process without the help
of the Guidance Office. The
Health Office miraculously
brought healing hands to students
before an algebra or chemistry test.
Mrs. Baber was also nice enough to
hand out those yellow non-
chargeable slips (in the right cir-
cumstances), and with a smiling
face, greet the long line of tardy
students, that stretched from her
room out into the hallway, each
morning. Finally, Mrs. Ruffley has
always managed her IMC in a firm
but loving way. We also miss hear-
ing her voice in the morning an-
nouncements! Because of their ef-
forts, the Guidance, Health, and
Attendance offices, and the IMC,
have made life for Dayton students
much easier.

FOOTLOOSE''

The 1990 boys' varsity soccer
team has once again achieved a
successful season. Led by returning
Coach Cozza, the team's strategies
won them many games. Captain
Brian Carson led the Bulldogs' de-
fense with the help of left fullback
Peter Gittrich and right fullback
Deo Bove. Sophomore Matt Isles
also contributed to the strong de-
fense as sweeper. Senior forwards
Phil Kolubinskyj, Miguel
Rodriguez, and David Goodman
led the powerful offense. Co-
captain Scott Meisner also added
to the team's victories. The com-
petitive boys' soccer team finished
with a record of 10-7-2.

GIRLS' SOCCER: "CRAZY PEOPLE''

The words "enthusiastic" and
"competitive" come to mind when dis-
cussing this year's girls' soccer team.
Coaches Art Krupp and John Kovolisky
showed their determination to strength-
en the inexperienced team by their dis-
play of loyalty and their devotion to the
girls. An abbreviated schedule, as well as
the coaches' comic relief, helped the
Lady Bulldogs to keep their chins up and
pull through with a winning season.
Seniors Karen Kaminski (captain),
Danielle Coddington, Michele Reid, Ja-
net Blackwood, and Dana Williams
guided the team to a fun-filled and en-
joyable season, which made it easier for
the girls to work together. With the en-
thusiastic attitude of talented under-
classmen, led by Juniors Heather An-
derson and Sue Werner, and
Sophomore Laura Leyrer, the Dawgs
have great expectations for next season.

1990 DAYTON DAVVGS II

The 1990 edition of Jonathan Dayton
football, led by tri-captains Matt Sapara,
Alex Tarantino and Joe Perez reached its
pinnacle on October 14th with a 19-0 win
at Bound Brook. Unfortunately for the
"Dawgs," this would be the only time they
would find themselves in the victory col-
umn all year. However the "Bulldogs" were
not pushovers by any means. A swarming
defense held four opponents to 7 points,
but the Orange and Blue could not generate
enough offense as the "Dawgs" fell to
North Plainfield and Immaculata 7-0, to
Hillside 7-6, and on Thanksgiving to Gov.
Livingston 7-3. These last two games were
particularly painful as the Bulldogs held a
lead, only to lose each game with 1 :30
remaining. The Bulldogs also gave Brearley
all it could handle in a TV-3 game on No-
vember 9, dropping a 37-15 decision that
was much closer than the score indicates.

The team was led offensively by Quar-
terback Jeremy Bazydlo who rushed and
passed for more than 700 yards. Joe Perez
was the leading rusher with 422 yards and
the leading scorer with 18 points. Justin
Petino was the leading receiver with 16
catches. Justin also earned first team All
Conference as a tight end. He was joined on
the all Conference team by senior Steve
Prezimirski who was honored as the top
punter.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were led by
Junior Jason Mullman at linebacker. Jason
recorded 112 tackles and made several all
area teams as well as honorable mention All
Conference. Lineman James Corbett and
Michael Servello, linebacker Alex Taranti-
no, and defensive back Rich Roche all
played well in their final year.

Sophomores Jordan Pintado and Doug
Stoffer started and will look to improve next
year. Neal Lynch, Clayton Trivett, Mark
Nadzan, Dejohn Cataldo and Andy Huber
also played well for the "Dawgs," which
will look to rebound in 1 991 .

Boys' Winter Track was definitely not

RUNNING ON EMPTY''

Coaches Byrne, Broderick, Commerci, and Ortiz are
very pleased with Dayton's Winter Track team's 4 and 1
record this year. The amazing team missed a shutout
season by a single loss to New Providence. The captains
Sean McGrath, Joe Roughneen, and Sean Roughneen all
had an excellent season. Sean McGrath finished third in
the county and second in the conference for the mile.
Sean Roughneen, Joe Roughneen, Seth Eisen, and Peter
Kuenzell all finished fifth in the state for the hurdle
relays. Peter Kuenzel was a welcome contribution in his
first year on track as he also finished fifth in the con-
ference for the shot put. Fortunately, these dedicated
juniors will return to the track team next year. Josh
Kessle and Brett Wilkins also helped lead our winter
track team to four victories.

RUNNING TO THE FINISH

The Girls' Cross Country team com-
pleted its season with a 4-6 dual meet
record. The girls placed fourth in the
Mountain Division Conference race at
Warinaco Park.

The team was led by Senior Co-
Captains Mary Hrywna and Joyce
Quinzel. Joyce earned Third Team All
Counties honors. Returning lettermen
included Senior Joanna Lobozzo and
Sophomore Lydia Lake. However, most
of the team were joining Cross Country
for the first time. Juniors Karen Auer,
Fanny Lee, Suzanne Lipman, and
Samantha Young, Sophomore Alyssa
Demski, and Freshman Jessica Schnei-
der gained valuable experience in their
premiere season which they used to go
on to a season of winter track. Last but
not least, Junior Alexis Estevez returned
to the team as manager.

The Girls' Tennis Team finished off another incredible win-
ning season. By finishing with a 1 4-2 record, the Lady Bulldogs
easily captured the conference title for the second straight
year. Under the leadership of Coach Ed Jasinski, the team also
ended as the top public school in Union County, as well as
placing in the state's "Top 20." Senior captain, Susan Taub,
closed out her final season at first singles, placing second in
the state. Second singles player, Lisa Taub, made all-
conference honors and will carry on the Taub name next year.
Wendy Saladino also made all-conference honors at third
singles. Staci Messinger and Holly Olarczuk scored a winning
season at first doubles, while Kathy McCabe and Danielle
Oliver played second doubles. On and off the court, the girls

SHOW THEIR SPIRIT

This year's fall squad showed lots of spirit in everything they did,
with the help of their advisors; Ms. Rosania, Mrs. Verschuren, and Mrs.
Adamowitz. Besides cheering for football games and both girls and
boys soccer games, the squad kept a busy schedule by decorating the
fieldhouse every week. This year, along with decorating the seniors'
houses before the Thanksgiving game, the girls started a new tradition
by decorating senior houses before the first football game, and also
decorated each week for the Bulldog of the week. The squad will look
back on all of the fond memories of the 1990 fall season for many
years to come.

The Girls' Indoor Tack Team raced to
a fairly successful season. They finished
with a 1-2 record. The team, led by co-

the dual meets but did not finish the
season due to an injury. Joyce Quinzel,
in her best season ever, achieved her
personal best time and a fifth place
medal in the two-mile race at the con-
ference meet. Junior and newcomer
Samantha Young won a fifth place med-
al with her best time in the half-mile.
Sophomore Mandi Oberhauser led the
team in the shotput with a third place
conference medal and teamed with jun-
ior Alexis Estevez, won a fourth place
medal in the county relays. Senior Joan-
na Lobozzo, juniors Karen Auer and

doing his stuff in centerfield, and
senior Mike Reddington behind

successful. Senior Brian Carson

very versatile players who were
also a great asset to the team. Al-

season would not have been such a
success. They encouraged each and

areas. Senior Jarah Moesch, junior Sue

STUDENT COUNCIL: BREAKING RECORDS!

The Student Council had a very exciting and productive year. More
meetings and events were held this year than in recent years, practically
more than in all of Dayton's history. In fact, as Miss Duke said, "Every time
we hold a meeting, we break another record!" The Student Council is led by
President Michelle Weinberg, Vice-President Nancy Bolton, Secretary
Jocelyn Hreben, and Treasurer Lisi Blum. The Student Council planned
many activities that were enjoyed by all. In November, the Student Council
sponsored the annual Fall Festival that culminated in the annual Home-
coming Dance. Students showed their spirit by participating in events such
as hall decorating, the pep rally, the bonfire, and various theme days which
included Hat day, College Sweats day, Patriotism day, slippers day, and
inside-out day.

The student council also initiated a meeting between student council
officers of the four regional high schools. Together, the officers planned a
future Regional dance.

Dayton's students also showed their spirit by supporting the Student
Council sponsored Blood Drive that was held in March. In April and May,
students were treated to the second annual Spring Fling. Many activities
were held throughout the festival, which was topped off by the Spring Fling
carnival.

Aside from the many big events the student council sponsored, the
organization was also busy with the daily morning announcements, the
Birthday bulletin board, and the monthly Student Council bulletin. They
also proudly introduced the spirit megaphone to Dayton. The megaphone is
given to the class that wins the spirit award, and they then paint their class'
name on it.

The Student Council, supported by the entire student body's hard work
and enthusiasm, had a very successful year.

DAYTON BAND STRIKES UP A TUNE

Although the Jonathan Dayton Band has decreased in
number over the past few years, they make up for it in
musicianship and spirit. At Christmas time, the band
played for senior citizens at the Mountainside and
Springfield Senior Citizen Homes. For the Spring, they're
planning a concert that will feature a medley of "Annie"
and "Festive" The band is also planning a trip to Her-

DAYTON'S "QUIZ KIDS':
The Challenge Team

This year's Challenge Team had a very
successful year. They defeated New
Providence and West Orange in the first
two rounds before losing to Oratory in
the quarterfinal round. The team was led
by veteran Steve Kleinman. Other mem-
bers of the team were Jin Ho Lee, Sean
McGrath, and John Schiano. The team
was coached by Mr. Fox. In order to be
selected for the team, each student had
to go through a questioning process
conducted by Mr. Fox. The questions
dealt with categories of history/politics,
geography, art/music, literature, sci-
ence/math, sports, and trivia. These cat-
egories were the same areas covered
during the Challenge competitions. The
competitions were held and taped in the
TV-3 studio in West Orange.

"A CHORUS LINE"

This year's Vocal Workshop consisted of
six freshmen and one sophomore, all of
whom show great potential. During the past
autumn and winter they participated in a
winter concert with the Dayton Chorale and
Concert Choir. The choirs also participated
in a holiday show where they performed at
club meetings and holiday parties. During
the spring months they concentrated on their
combined concert with the Springfield and
Mountainside middle schools, in which they
sang various Broadway melodies. In the
Spring Concert, they performed songs from
the popular movie, "The Little Mermaid."

During the past year, along with Dayton's
other choirs, Vocal Workshop participated in
fund-raisers such as the pumpkin sale, the
product sale, and the ongoing cookie sale.
The proceeds from these sales financed the
spring trip to Annapolis, Maryland.

Vocal Workshop students hope to be-
come the future singing stars at Dayton.

CHORALE

The 1991 Chorale had an exciting
and eventful year. Although the choir
was faced with declining enrollment,
the new and returning members suc-
ceeded in making this one of the
Chorale's finest years ever. Among
the highlights of the year were the
annual pumpkin sale at Halloween,
the annual Alumni-Messiah Concert,
and the adjudication during the

Dayton's 1990-1991 school play was,
Flowers for Algernon. Directed by Mr.
Joseph Trinity, the performance was a
huge success. The cast and crew, of
approximately twenty-five members,
worked well together and enjoyed all
the rehearsal and practice that went into
producing the show. Upon completion

DAYTON GETS PSYCHED

Dayton Students
Show Their Spirit!

The 1990 Fall Festival and Spirit Week was
a great success as students and teachers
showed their enthusiasm and school spirit.
The Student Council planned an exciting
agenda. Included during this fun-filled period
were hat day, slipper day, college sweats day,
inside-out day, patriotism day, and blue-and-
orange day. The annual hall decorating con-
test produced the best looking halls that Day-
ton has ever seen; and although all of the
hallways were great (Freshman Mardi Gras,
Sophomore Calendar Hallway, and Junior In-
ternational Tour), the Seniors won with their
Monopoly Hallway. There was also a great
turnout at the Mr. Regional/Homecoming
Dance, where students were treated to a
"Night Under the Stars." Finally, the pep rally
before the Thanksgiving Day football game
was an exciting and rowdy event, filled with
cheering students, proud football players, and
the sounds of Mr. David's Kazoo band. The
success of this year's Fall Festival showed a
growing sense of pride and school spirit at
Jonathan Dayton during the week and a half
filled with fun, costumes, competition, and
excitement!

BEHIND THE SCENES: YEARBOOK

■•»

Although the school year has ended, the events, stu-
dents, faculty, and good times will always be remem-
bered thanks to the 1991 Regionalogue. On Location At
Dayton was compiled by editor-in-chief, Janet Black-
wood, with co-editors, Michele Reid and Jarah Moesch,
and faculty advisor, Mrs. Evelyn McCill. In addition to
the two journalism workshop classes, many other stu-
dents put in time and effort out of class to provide these
lasting memories. Also important was the work of busi-
ness managers Karen Kaminski and Greg Berman along
with Mr. David Van Hart.

Safe Rides is an organization sponsored by
the towns of Mountainside and Springfield.
The purpose of Safe Rides is to educate the
community about the dangers associated with
drinking and driving. Also, Safe Rides provides
a ride home if you are intoxicated or you do
not wish to ride with someone who is in-
toxicated. Safe Rides operates out of Moun-

urday night from nine p.m. to one a.m.
President of Safe Rides, Jamie Schutz, has
been pleased with the turnout of students
eager to help this new club. There are eighty-

Dayton Students Find ALTERNATIVES

The Alternatives Club is a new club
started by the students of Jonathan Day-
ton, with the help of Ms. Carolyn Konen
and Mr. Clifford Lauterhahn. Its aim is to
provide students with alternatives other
than drugs and alcohol.

Each of the four Regional schools has
participating members in all Alternatives
activities who meet in order to discuss
past activities and to exchange ideas and
update their information. From these
joint meetings, new activities evolve.

The Club has sponsored open gym
nights at the school to give students an
alternative to partying or "hanging out"
on the streets, getting into trouble. Club
members also put red ribbons on every
car in the school parking lot before va-
cation to remind students not to drink
and drive. The club has even met with
elementary school students to explain to
them what the effects of drugs are.

Caring is their way of life!

The 1990-91 Jonathan Dayton Key
Club's motto is "Caring is our way of
life." Dayton's Key Club, the largest and
most active organization at Dayton, cer-
tainly kept true to those words this year.
The Key Clubbers participated in an av-
erage of one meeting and six service
projects a month under the leadership
of President Kathy McCabe, Vice Pres-
ident Nancy Bolton, Secrtary Michelle
Weinberg, Treasurer Jason Perle, class
representatives and advisors Miss Duke,
Mr. Fox, and Mr. Van Hart. In service to
Dayton, Key Clubbers acted as adult
school guides and welcomers for Mid-
dlestates evaluators, distributed and
decorated the school with yellow rib-
bons and hosted the third annual Vol-
unteer Opportunities Conference. As
well as serving the school, Key Club was
active in the community. They partic-
ipated in projects with organizations
such as Children's Specialized Hospital,
Food Bank of Newark, and Convenant
House. On December seventh, the Key
Club officers were proud to participate
in a ceremony honoring Prisoner's of
War, and accepting a POW flag for the
school. Through various a-thons, this
group of hard working young people
raised thousands of dollars for C.R.O.P.,
the Leukemia Society, and the Tomor-
row's Children Fund. This club does a
great job, and will be helping people for
many years to come.

The Dayton Journal had an exceptional year. It came out almost on a monthly
basis. The school paper also sold Dayton Journal t-shirts. In November the
editorial staff went on a field trip to the Busch Campus of Rutgers at New
Brunswick. There they attended seminars on newswriting and other things
pertaining to the newspaper. Many representatives form newspapers across the
state were also in attendance. This year the editorial staff consisted of Editor-in-
chief Kathy McCabe; Managing Editor Joanna Lobozzo; Sports Editor Mark
Hrywna; Features Editor Mary Hrywna; News Editor Seth Eisen; Editorial Editor
Steve Kleinman; Photogrpahy Editors Danielle Coddington and Charlie

French Club Has a Flair For Fun

With the help of the officers President Marcie
Cornstein, Vice-President Kim Poindexter, Sec-
retary Kathy McCabe, and Teasurer Heather Pas-
ciuti, the French Club enjoyed a fun-filled year. In
December, the club held its annual Holiday Party
featuring food, games, and gifts. To raise funds, the
club sold the French chocolate bars, Toblerones.
For Foreign Language Week, the French classes
decorated Miss Fahrmann's room as a French
flower market. The club also planned a trip to see
the hit Broadway musical, "Les Miserables." This
year the French 5 class had the chance to polish
up their French with the help of two exchange
students, Cecile Ezarty from France and Andrea
Ferrero from Quebec, Canada. Dayton French
Club members were able to expand their interests
in the French culture and language.

members of this club. The officers are
President David Holister, Vice-President
Jin Ho Lee, Secretary Melissa Barreiros,
and Treasurer Dana Magee. The year
began with the Halloween party that
featured a pumpkin carving contest, pin-
ning the column on the design and other
Latin games. A toga party was also cel-
ebrated. In December, each member
had a 'secret Santa' which they revealed
on the 'Saturnalia,' a Latin Christmas
holiday. There was also an art contest
won by Jin Ho Lee. His design was put
on T-shirts for each member to wear. On
March 9, there was a College Bowl and
at the end of April, there was a Latin
State Convention in which some of the
members participated. The Latin club

MAKING THE GRADE''

Students are selected for membership in the
National Honor Society on the basis of schol-
arship, character, leadership, and service. The
main goal of the NHS is to give recognition to
those students who are outstanding academ-
ically and in their commitment of service to the
school and community. As members of the NHS,
these students are called upon to provide a
tutoring service in the school. There is a formal

The "Young Einstein" of SCIENCE LEAGUE

This year, Jonathan Dayton's Science
League consisted of three teams: Earth
Science, Biology I, and Physics I. The
teams competed four times this year;
once each in January, February, March
and April. During the competitions,
each member took a fifty minute mul-
tiple-choice test. These tests were dif-
ficult, and required constant prepara-
tion. With help from Mr. Gula, Mr.
Ferarra, and Mrs. Shanahan, the enthu-
siastic teams were able to have fun as
well as be competitive.

Melopoeia, Dayton's literary magazine,
gives students the chance to receive rec-
ognition for their writing abilities. Students
submit their original poems, short stories,
and artwork to a committee of student ed-
itors, who then read and discuss what
should appear in the annual circulation.
The students handle this project with a
great deal of maturity and responsibility; as
is seen in the final publication.

DRAMA CLUB ACTS UP!

Under the tutelage of Mr. Joseph Trin-
ity, the Drama Club experienced an ex-
citing and fulfilling year. One of the
highlights was this year's production of
"Flowers for Algernon." Jeanne Minieri,
who played the female lead remarked,
"Everyone who participated was more
than just friends which made the play
even better." The officers of this year's
drama club were Jeanne Minieri, Janet
Blackwood, James Forker and Jason
Perle. Congratulations to all thespians
involved for fine performances!

To a pit of pestilence i do bequeath my undying
contempt, unto thee i wish a Plague of anguish and
torment many can realize but few can appreciate.
A pure cloak of sadism has been your mead, and a
scepter of intolerance your entree i can only pray
that one, glowing, glorious day of catharsis that this
period will become a forgotten cloud, and the rest
of my life crush this human pap.

The Freshmen learned the ropes during their first year at Dayton Regional.
The "Frosh" learned to find their way through the maze of Dayton's hall-
ways, decipher their schedules, and break the Springfield/Mountainside
barrier by making many new friends. These new Daytonites contributed to
the Dayton Production as they competed in sports teams, participated in
spirit week, cheered at the pep rally, and attended many other high school
events. The Freshmen began to realize what homework is really all about and
began in earnest to prepare themselves for three more years at Dayton. They
studied, made close friends, and fundraised in preparation for wnen THEY
would be the seniors and the stars of the show.

SOPHOMORES

Class of 1993

Already having weathered a year at Dayton, the Class of 1993 returned this year ready to make their second year even
better than the first. Tremendous effort and spirit was shown during Spirit Week by the sophomores' detailed and
elaborate "Calendar of 1990" hallway. Their fundraising also continued successfully, for example, with a sweatshirt sale
that sold out after seven days. Their endeavor bolstered school spirit as many students proudly wore their Dayton
sweatshirts around school. At the end of the year, the Sophomores looked forward to becoming a part of the elite
upperclassmen the following September.

JUNIORS

Class of 1992

Making it halfway through their high school years, the Juniors come to the realization that college is approaching quickly.
The taking of the PSAT's and SAT's is a very significant part of Junior year. The Juniors must struggle through the difficult
courses which they know will determine their future. From gaining a new principal to the combined Junior/Senior Prom, the
Juniors will experience a time of change. But Junior year is not all work, there is a substantial amount of fun also. Many cruise
around town after they receive their licenses, while others count down the days until they no longer have to depend on
"Mommy and Daddy" for rides. This Junior class showed their enthusiasm at our first pep rally of the year in winning the
spirit contest. Holding many successful fundraisers, such as selling cookies and the sale of Entertainment Books, the Junior
class raised a vast amount of money. They are now looking forward to having an even more successful senior year!
